The History of Top Bloke Day

It all happened one day when I was strolling through the card section of a store and saw greeting cards for grandparents day. Now let me start by telling you that I have nothing against grandparents, hell I have even had a few of my own. It was then that I got to thinking about about all the days that we, as blokes, have to endure and the expectations put upon us during certain days of the year.

Think about it.......

Valentines day - history tells us that it dates back to the 14th century. It has do with some bloke sending a letter from jail to some sheila he was trying to crack onto. All very nice and I hope he got lucky, but it has now developed into a day where the bloke is expected to buy a card, get some overpriced flowers, buy a heap of chocolates and take your special girl out for dinner. All this a bloke does in the hope of getting a bit.....

It doesn't end with Valentines day, think of all the "days" where there is some sort of expectation placed upon you. Most holidays or celebrations, a Top Bloke just wants to sit around with his mates or in front of the TV with a few cold ones and unwind.

So now, the greeting card companies are onto us and start making days up. Days like - Grandparents day, Admin professionals day (huh?), Nurses day, Secretary day, Sweetest day (huh?), National boss day (why would anyone want to celebrate that?). Where a day couldn't be made up, they have just created cards for "the moment". Stuff like - Friendship, Care and Concern, Just Because.... etc, etc. All in the hope that they will catch on and people will feel obligated to buy the cards and everything that goes along with it.....

In the last year or so, I have seen Easter cards and have even received a few. For god's sake where will it all end?????
